About

I'm 28 years old, currently living in Sheffield. This site is primarily an outlet for my programming and Internet obsession; I have found coding fascinating and rewarding from an early age, and have long been interested in OSS development, specifically Mozilla. I am also fascinated by the (slowly) emerging semantic web and the development of, and interactions between, web applications.

As an enthusiastic SCUBA diver, qualified to PADI Advanced Open Water standard, I have been diving in several different countries and am always looking forward to my next diving trip. Since being on expedition with Coral Cay Conservation I have a rudimentary knowledge of marine reef biology and a heightened awareness of the importance and fragility of our coral reef ecosystems and what needs to be done in order for us to have any chance of saving them.

Other interests of mine include science & technology, specifically green technology and any aspect of science that can help conserve our planet for generations to come, chemistry, physics, hi-fi, hiking, craft beer, cooking, gym & assorted exercise.

I am also a massive music addict who goes to gigs and concerts regularly, owning far too many CDs and hundreds of Gb of high quality MP3s. Currently my main musical interests are dark ambient and progressive black metal, although my tastes extend from modern classical through to drum & bass, jazz, electronic and drone. Being slightly obsessed with drumming (I have my own electronic kit despite not being very good as yet), I am also currently dabbling in digital music creation to see where it takes me.

Whilst I am determined to avoid filling this page with the results of dubious 'personality' tests such as 'which Star Wars character are you?', I have found one test, apparently designed by real psychologists, which seems to provide some seemingly accurate reflection of character - personalDNA. So here is my personalDNA chart, just hover over the coloured blocks to see what they represent, and click the link underneath the chart to go to a page detailing my personality type.
