Induction Heating Applications
ALT Powertron Water Cooled Capacitors have been designed to improve the inherently low power factor associated with induction heating equipment where the heat is produced by a magnetic field which induces eddy current losses in the material.
The reliability of these capacitors depends on careful design, the use of high quality materials, and constantly monitored production systems. The ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environment is essential for the continued reliability of these products.
All of our Water Cooled Capacitors have extremely low losses. Water cooling is necessary due to their high power capability in reduced volumes.
The standard arrangement is for one side of the elements to be connected to a copper pipe which is also connected to the case. This is designated as 'live case' Insulated designs or 'dead case' versions are also available.
We are also able to supply retrofit applications in many instances, providing form, fit and function replacement designs for existing capacitors.
ALT Powertron Water Cooled Capacitors for induction heating applications are subjected to 100% testing, both during manufacture and in final test before despatch.
All capacitors are subjected to the following final tests:
- Leak Test
- Capacitance and Tan Delta Measurement
- Proof Voltage
- Discharge Test
- Sonic Corona Test
Low loss polypropylene is used as the dielectric, with aluminium foil electrodes. Steatite or porcelain terminals are used with aluminium, steel or stainless steel cases, depending on the operating frequency.
Our range of water-cooled capacitors are designed for a wide range of applications including heat treatment, forging, billet heating and furnaces.
This range is designed for all frequencies up to 10 kHz and voltages up to 3000V. For requirements outside these parameters, please contact us for further details.
All materials used in ALT Powertron Water Cooled Capacitors are non-toxic and environmentally compatible. All of our capacitors are manufactured under ISO 9001:2000 certification and meet or exceed the requirements of IEC 110.
